Who is the better detective, Sherlock Holmes or Hercule Poirot?

As avid readers of the crime fiction genre, here at World of Rare Books we just can not decide who is the best detective out of the two most well-known figures in crime fiction.

Whilst they each have different methods, it is very hard to compare them. Sherlock focuses on a clue and all the possible practicalities and Poirot doesn’t, he is a lot more interested in the criminal psychology.

Hercule Poirot’s cases are unquestionably darker and they involve a psychological and intense analysis of the suspects. Poirot relies on fine detail and the character traits of the individuals involved. Most cases involve murder and he will get into the mind of the killer to solve the crime.

Sherlock Holmes is more resourceful and opportunistic. He is excellent when it comes to connecting the dots and extending them towards the solution. He has mastered the art of finding a link between things which many of us struggle to do.

We feel it is hard to judge who is the better of the two, but it’s a fact that Poirot has solved some very complex cases compared to those of Sherlock. We have to say that they two sides of the same coin. Either way, you would get your money’s worth with each detective.

Granted, the credit shouldn’t go to these fictional characters, all the credit should go to the fantastic minds behind characters. Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle, as they had to do all the work to present these genius detectives but also create the crimes and puzzles to solve. So, thank you for creating two such thrilling characters that each generation has fallen in love with, and giving us a twist in each story that leaves us all reeling.
